Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) is a secure version of File Transfer Protocol (FTP), which facilitates data access and data transfer over a Secure Shell (SSH) data stream. It is part of the SSH Protocol.

This help article is written using screenshots form FileZilla Version 3.33.0 on Windows 64 bit.

  1. Use Edit menu, Settings, select SFTP and Add key file. This tells Filezilla where it is on your computer.
  2. Use File menu, Site Manager and follow the setup in the image, the password is automatically filled in as in step 1 you told Filezilla where the file is.
  3. First time you’ll get this alert – don’t worry about it.
  4. Connected, go ahead and transfer data.
